Me, too. The next step, of course, will be Amazon refusing to accept any book that contains that sentence. (They’re despicable enough to do it.) Heavy sigh.
Thanks for this. I’ll be adding a disclaimer to all my posts in future. It probably won’t make much practical difference, given the recent legal ruling that AI scraping is fair use, but it raises a hand in protest at this legalised theft, at the very least.
Yes, that's how I view it. It raises awareness, hopefully! Thanks so much for reading, and I'm glad it is something you feel might be right for your work.
I hadn't seen the news about the ruling yet. How devastating. I really don't understand how that can be considered fair use at all!
There was an episode of a Sitcom where one character would put bizarre sentences, like diatribes talking about his fear for bananas, in his essays to prevent people from plagiarizing him. I wish there was some kind of hidden function like that which could help fudge the info that AI is scraping from books, or a code that caused texts to be unreadable to LLMs and other programs.
So, I think there are things in the works. I read this article about using AI to basically "trap" AI scrapers in an infinite maze of AI generated junk content. Which may be one of my favorite applications of AI I have heard! https://futurism.com/cloudflare-trap-ai-scrapers-maze
As someone that was very deep in the artist community and am friends with many book cover artists, this has been a concern for years now and has seemed so unfair from the start. I love that you have found ways to give artists and writers ways to take their power back. Ai is not going anywhere in fact everything is using ai now, even real estate…
Thank you for writing this! I hadnt heard of any ways you could protect your work so very useful information. Steven is writing a book currently as well so i will definitely be passing along to him as well.
Where to start with this insightful comment! I hadn't even thought about the impact on real estate, but you are so right! This method may be a feeble attempt at protection, but it feels better than nothing! That is so exciting for Steven! Tell him welcome to the writing community. That's so great!! Write on! ✍️
Perfect! I will pass along to my publisher.
Thank you! I would be so happy to see this practice spread!

It's a good start! Although, I would like something that could brick a scraper's rig outright.
Good to know!
Thanks for reading!
Thank you for letting this out!
